(FAQ) Frequently Asked Questions

Are there specific qualifications for applicants?

No. Prior industry or academic experience is not required, but most successful applicants have been introduced to programming by writing some code independently or taking e-learning courses such as FreeCodeCamp or Code Academy.

What are the non-technical qualifications?

Successful applicants are passionate about computer programming, inquisitive learners and effective communicators.

Who is the typical TechFleet applicant?

There isn't a "typical" TechFleet applicant. Our students come from a variety of backgrounds. Some hold a computer science degree and want to build web development skills. Others come from unrelated fields, seeking the opportunity to break into the software development field. Some have been exposed to computer programming work, but want to develop more well-rounded comprehensive skills so that they can advance in their careers.

How can I prepare if I don’t have programming experience?

Our applicants are required to complete 90 hours of pre-work prior to being accepted into our program.  Schedule an appointment to meet with us immediately!

What is pre-work preparation?

Pre-work is a set of lessons you must complete before starting TechFleet’s immersive training program. The pre-course curriculum is extremely important in preparing you to get the most out of our training program. On average, students spend at least 90 hours working through the preparatory work, setting goals and preparing for success during our 12-week program.

Will I get a job when I complete the TechFleet BootCamp?

TechFleet currently hires 100% of our graduates. We work with a wide variety of companies throughout central Ohio that are looking to hire our graduates.

Are non-U.S. citizens able to get jobs in Columbus after completing TechFleet’s program?

We do not advise our international applicants to expect to be able to work in Columbus, Ohio. It is possible, but by no means a certainty. The barrier for entry to work in the U.S. is very high and we can make no guarantees. The factors at play are largely out of our control and often out of the control of the employer companies themselves. Computer language is universal and the skills you learn at TechFleet are valuable around the world. Our international graduates do very well both in the U.S. and their home countries.
